Full Fall Flora

On the calendar, it’s the first day of fall, but in Vicksburg an even more sure sign is the proliferation of spider lilies. Called “naked ladies” by some, the lilies pop up from the ground on their 24-inch leafless spikes anywhere the soil is well-drained, in sun or shade. They reproduce quickly and bulbs are easily dug up, divided and transplanted. Lilies also can be found in pink, yellow and white. (Suzanne Feliciano*The Vicksburg Post)
