Store’s owner catches burglary suspect in vent|CRIME

A Brandon man was arrested and charged with business burglary Sunday after the owner of a U.S. 80 grocery store caught him leaving the building, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
The owner of John’s Grocery, 2033 U.S. 80, was alerted to a problem in a call from his alarm company at just after 8. He called deputies and went to the store, where he caught William Jefferson, 22, 6605 Grants Ferry Road, attempting to crawl out of a vent at the back of the building, Pace said.
The owner held Jefferson at gunpoint until a deputy arrived and took him into custody, Pace said.
Jefferson remained in Warren County Jail this morning awaiting his initial court appearance.
City man jailed after home entered
A Vicksburg man was arrested Sunday after fleeing from a residence he was attempting to rob in the 3600 block of Washington Street after he found the owner home, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Jason Shelton, 26, 2604 Togo St., kicked in the door around 8:27 a.m. but left immediately when the owner began screaming, Stewart said.
Shelton was arrested at 8:47 a.m. on Lee Street and charged with attempted residential burglary.
He remained in Warren County Jail this morning with bond set at $10,000.
City man charged in 3rd domestic violence
A Vicksburg man was arrested Sunday and charged with third-offense domestic violence after police responded to a disturbance at his home around 4:30 p.m., Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Phillip Blalack, 28, 4407 Halls Ferry Road, was taken to Warren County Jail, where he remained this morning with bond set at $10,000.
Generator, tools, guns among missing items
Guns and a lawn mower are among the items reported stolen in Vicksburg since Friday, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said and Warren County Jail records showed:
• A Honda generator valued at $2,689, a Craftsman saw valued at $120 and a Nintendo DS with miscellaneous games valued at $450 were reported stolen Friday at 12:27 p.m. from the 100 block of Lee Circle.
• A Green Machine lawn mower valued at $600 and a Redmax leaf blower valued at $300 were reported stolen Friday at 3:07 p.m. from the 2200 block of Pearl Street.
• A GE window air conditioner valued at $175, a 36-inch Sanyo television valued at $350 and a 63-inch television valued at $1,800 were reported stolen Saturday at 11:05 a.m. from the 1200 block of Second North Street.
• Two Browning 12-gauge shotguns valued at $800 each, a Remington 12-gauge shotgun valued at $500, a Remington .22-caliber Apache rifle valued at $175, a Browning .22-caliber handgun valued at $300, a Ruger .38 special valued at $225, a Remington .270-caliber rifle with scope valued at $1,200, two air rifles valued at $400, a 19-inch Sanyo television valued at $150 and dishware valued at $50 were reported stolen Sunday at 8:43 a.m. from the 300 block of Fred Drive.
• A DeWalt saw, a Skil saw, a Milwaukee Sawzall, a jig saw, an air compressor and miscellaneous hand tools were reported stolen Sunday at 10:10 a.m. from the 6000 block of Oak Ridge Road. The items had a combined value of $4,000.
• A Dell laptop valued at $2,000 was reported stolen at 11:43 a.m. from the 4000 block of Common Circle.
• A truck alternator valued at $100, a truck battery valued at $50 and a power steering pump valued at $120 were reported stolen Sunday at 2:35 p.m. from the 90 block of Redhawk Road.
• Jewelry valued at $2,600 was reported stolen Sunday at 5:20 p.m. from the 12000 block of Oak Ridge Road.
• An iPod Nano valued at $200, an iPod car adapter valued at $80 and 30 CDs valued at $100 were reported stolen this morning at 3:06 out of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee parked in the 1300 block of Washington Street.
