METAIRIE, La. — Phoebe Elise Hamilton McCormick died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Canon Hospice in Metairie, La. She was 89.

Born in Port Gibson, Mrs. McCormick had lived in New Orleans since 1939. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen T. Sr. and Lela Watson Hamilton; a brother, Stephen T. “Doc” Hamilton Jr.; her husband, James L. McCormick Sr.; and a son, Ralph H. McCormick.

She is survived by two sons, James L. McCormick Jr. of Metairie and Kenneth R. McCormick of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson with the Rev. Margaret Ayers officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be until 12:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
