PATTISON — Melvin Hamlin died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 48.
Mr. Hamlin was preceded in death by his parents, Velt and Mariah Hamlin; his biological mother, Mozella Stamps; and a sister, Bobbie Stamps.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie Hamlin of Pattison; two sons, Melvin D. Hamlin and JaDarius J. Hamlin, both of Lorman; a daughter, Brittany S. Hamlin of Lorman; four stepsons, Kelsey Short, Dontay Hamlin and Toby Claiborne, all of Pattison, and Arthur Claiborne of Jackson; his biological father, Willie Lee Stamps of Port Gibson; six brothers, Lee Dell Stamps, Leroy Stamps and Leroy Claiborne, all of Vicksburg, Mack A. Stamps of Port Gibson, Clifton Stamps of the U.S. Army in Iraq and James Earl Claiborne of Mobile, Ala.; four sisters, Rosie Stamps and Brenda Stamps, both of Vicksburg, and Adrienne Stamps and Lucinda Jones, both of Port Gibson; his maternal grandmother, Henrietta Yarbrough of Bogalusa, La.; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Waterloo M.B. Church in Lorman with the Rev. Jonathan Hamlin officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and at the church Saturday from noon until the service.
