OXFORD — Ole Miss is featured on this week’s cover of Sports Illustrated, just days after beating then fourth-ranked Florida 31-30 in a shocking upset.

It’s been 38 years since the Rebels were given such treatment in Sports Illustrated, one of the nation’s most widely-read magazines. On Sept. 14, 1970, Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning appeared on the cover. Eight years earlier, Ole Miss cheerleaders made the cover of the weekly magazine.

This week’s cover photo features Ole Miss defensive end Greg Hardy diving to tackle Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. The title of the article is “Rebels Rise.”

Hardy had 2 1/2 tackles for a loss and 1 1/2 sacks in the game.

Ole Miss hosts South Carolina at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Mississippi teams dominate Juco poll

Five Mississippi junior college teams are ranked in the national junior college football poll. Hinds Community College, once a staple in the weekly rankings, is not one of the five, however.

Jones County is ranked No. 3 and Mississippi Gulf Coast comes in at No. 7. Pearl River is ranked 10th, while Mississippi Delta is 19th and East Mississippi is 20th.
