Dorothy Evans Hunt

PORT GIBSON — Dorothy Evans Hunt died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, in Memphis. She was 70.

Mrs. Hunt attended school in the Delta. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Alcorn State University and worked there for 48 years. She was a member and usher at Mount Olive M.B. Church. She served as treasurer of the Women’s Auxiliary and was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Willie Ethel Evans and Veronica Owens.

Survivors include her husband, Oliver Hunt; a daughter, Chelsea Ford of Fresno, Texas; four brothers, Donald Evans and Larry Evans, both of Memphis, Samuel Evans of Vicksburg and James Evans of Atlanta; four sisters, Elenora Wilson of San Antonio, Texas, Margaret Witherspoon of Riverside, Calif., Aline Gates of Greenville and Matlean Hampton of Memphis; one granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Camesha Marshall of Lorman.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive M.B. Church with the Rev. Elijah Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service
