Services for Wilbert “Joe” Thames will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edmond Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Thames died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 73.

Mr. Thames was born in Florence. He was a member of Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church and a former member of the Usher Board. He had worked for the Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammy Sr. and Delia Mae Singletary Thames; a brother, Bobby Thames; and a sister, Bernice Thames.

Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Dixon of Vicksburg; a brother, Sammy Thames Jr. of Florence; two sisters, Gertrude Thames Johnson and Rebecaa Thames Johnson, both of Pearl; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
