VHS coach, teacher grilled over comments

A Vicksburg High School teacher and soccer coach faced questioning Wednesday and potentially faces disciplinary action today after students and parents accused him of making inappropriate comments to female students.

Kevin Manton, a 19-year coach and driver’s education teacher, made insulting comments to two members of the girls’ basketball team and later to a larger group of team members, said a parent who met with school officials Wednesday.

Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent James Price said Wednesday he and other administrators would meet with Manton today and “appropriate action will be taken.”

A group of about seven parents met with Manton at Vicksburg High School Wednesday and were to meet among themselves in one of their homes Wednesday night.

Parents who attended the meeting at the school — who are not being named because doing so would identify the students — said they would give Price a unified statement with their request for action, if any, to be taken against Manton.

Manton declined comment.
