Oxford, Tupelo take state championships

Oxford High and Tupelo cruised to the girls’ and boys’ team championships, respectively, at the MHSAA state swim meet Saturday in Biloxi.

Warren Central was 19th in the girls’ meet, with 16 points, and St. Aloysius finished 26th with four points. WC’s Tiffany Miller was 13th in the 100 meter butterfly, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Alex Fischenich, Christine Miller, Alexandra Trichell and Tiffany Miller was 11th.

In the boys’ meet, St. Al totaled 39 points to finish 16th. WC was 24th, with nine points. For St. Al, the 200 medley relay team of Andy Bell, John Phillips, Wally Wibowo and Morgan Stone finished 14th. Wibowo, Bell and Stone also teamed up with Winston Hayes to finish ninth in the 200 freestyle relay and 11th in the 400 freestyle relay. Wibowo had the highest individual finish of any Warren County swimmer, placing 14th in the 100 meter breaststroke.

For WC, Matt Shoenberger came in 16th in the 200 freestyle, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Shoenberger, William Horner, Chase Lungrin and Hunter Anderson finished 13th.
