Guns, tools missing in county burglary

Nine guns were among the items reported stolen at 1:33 p.m. Monday from a home in the 600 block of Gowall Road, Warren County Jail records clerk Jamie Acuff said this morning.

No value was given by the owner on any of the missing items.

The weapons were two Remington model 870 12-gauge shotguns; a Mossberg 500 12-gauge camouflage-colored shotgun; an H&R Topper Jr. .410-gauge shotgun; a New England Firearms 243 single-shot rifle with three-by-nine scope; a Ruger model 77 .270 caliber rifle with three-by-nine scope; a Remington .22 caliber model 597 rifle with camouflage stock and three-by-nine scope; a Marlin 39A .22 caliber lever-action rifle with Redfield scope; and a Browning .22 caliber lever-action rifle. Five of the guns have been engraved with the owner’s social security number, Acuff said.

Also reported stolen were two Sears Craftsman cordless drills with chargers, a Stihl 16-inch chain saw, and a six-drawer tool box filled with assorted handtools.

City man charged with receiving stolen property

A Vicksburg man was arrested at 7:54 a.m. Monday at 1814 Sky Farm Ave. and charged with receiving stolen property, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said this morning.

Anthony Strong, 20, 1228 Second North St., was wanted on a warrant stemming from an Oct. 20 burglary in the 1100 block of First North Street, Stewart said. Police recovered a Dell laptop computer.

Strong was released on $2,500 bond.

La. woman charged with embezzlement

A Louisiana woman was arrested on charges of embezzlement Monday at 2:06 p.m., Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Leigh A. Mercer, 41, 782 U.S. 80, Delhi, is accused of writing false payroll checks to temporary workers at WillStaff, 2408 S. Frontage Road, Suite E, Stewart said.

She was released on $3,500 bond.
