Some roads inside the Vicksburg National Military Park might be temporarily closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic beginning Tuesday as work begins on a road project that will last nearly a year.
The project consists of the rehabilitation of about 2.6 miles of the South Loop Tour Road, 4 miles of Confederate Avenue, .26 miles of Pemberton Avenue and .62 miles of Connecting Avenue. The work includes asphalt pavement overlay and reconstruction, concrete pavement reconstruction, drainage improvements, sidewalk replacement and other miscellaneous work. The Federal Highways Administration is administering the project and has awarded a contract to Hemphill Construction Company of Florence to complete the work.
The work is expected to be completed in September 2009.
