Eugene F. Broome

Services for Eugene F. Broome will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Heroden Baptist Church with the Rev. L.A. Hall Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mr. Broome died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 76.

A Vicksburg resident, Mr. Broome served in the Korean War from 1952 until 1954 as a sergeant in the Marines. He was a member of American Legion Post 213 and Mount Heroden Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike Broome Sr. and Mattie Broome; one brother, Sidney Carter; and one sister, Juanita Broome.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Jean Broome; five stepsons, Danny Ray Evans and Alexander Myers, both of Norfolk, Va., Herman Myers Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., Michael Myers of Plano, Texas, and Jason Myers of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Angela Myers and Felicia Myers, both of Vicksburg; four daughters, Gwendolyn Brown, Terry Ann Brown and Deborah Brown, all of Vicksburg, and Debra Gardener of Connecticut; one son, Jerry Brown; a brother, Ike Broome Jr. of Newburgh, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
