City brothers jailed in attempted robbery

An attempted armed robbery Monday night of the Pizza Hut on Pemberton Boulevard resulted in the arrests of two Vicksburg brothers, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Arguello Magee, 26, and Gromyko Magee, 24, both of 630 Rawlston St., were in Issaquena County Jail this morning facing a charge of attempted armed robbery.

Employees of the Pizza Hut at 3520 Pemberton Blvd. reported that a man wearing jeans and a white skull mask approached them with a handgun as they were leaving the restaurant around 10:30 p.m. and ordered them back inside, demanding money.

After being told the employees could not open the safe or cash register, the man fled on foot into the woods.

A short time later, police found a gold Pontiac G6 on the shoulder of the on ramp to Interstate 20 from U.S. 61 South. Inside were the two brothers, one of whom matched the description of the robber. Police recovered the skull mask in the car, Stewart said, and arrested the men. No information was provided on whether the gun was recovered.

They were being held without bond this morning pending their initial hearing.

Driver attacked, robbed after giving trio a ride

A strong-armed robbery and attack were reported to Vicksburg police early this morning, Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

The victim said he gave three men a ride around 2 after being flagged down on Martin Luther King Boulevard. He took them to the 1200 block of South Street, where they assaulted him.

Reported stolen was a Nokia cell phone valued at $100, a CD radio valued at $150, three shirts valued at $30 total and a wallet with no money inside.

The suspects fled on foot toward First North Street.

The victim was taken to River Region Medical Center, where he was treated and released, Stewart said.

Jailed man faces charge of stealing motorcycle

A Vicksburg man in the Warren County Jail for unpaid fines will face additional charges after police recovered a stolen motorcycle at his home, said Lt. Bobby Stewart today.

Joseph Brown, 25, 1614 First East St., has been charged with receiving stolen property.

The motorcycle was found inside Brown’s home when police arrived to investigate a reported burglary there Sunday in which $30 in change was stolen. Police ran a record check on the vehicle identification number and found that it had been reported stolen in California in 2004, Stewart said.

Brown was released on $5,000 bond.

Armed carjacking suspect arrested, in county jail

An armed carjacking in the 1200 block of First North Street Friday has resulted in the arrest of a Vicksburg man, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

John Jones, 51, 413 Ford Road, was charged with possession of a handgun by a felon and carjacking in an incident reported at 8:11 p.m. Friday. He was arrested at 8:20 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Washington Street.

Jones is accused of stealing a 1998 Cadillac Seville. Police recovered the car and the handgun, Stewart said. Jones was in Warren County Jail this morning, held on $15,000 bond.

Attempted champagne heist lands city woman in jail

A Vicksburg woman was in Warren County Jail this morning charged with shoplifting, third offense, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Susie Johnson, 34, 1124 South St., Apt. 1, was arrested Saturday at 7:43 p.m. attempting to steal a bottle of Remy Martin champagne valued at $34.49, Stewart said.

Originally charged with second offense shoplifting, Johnson was found after a records check to have two previous shoplifting convictions. Her charges were upgraded, and she was held on $5,000 bond.
