George Ward Jr.

Mr. George Ward Jr. died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 65.
A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was the son of George Ward Sr. and Martha Lou Sheller Ward. He was a 1961 graduate of Culkin Academy and retired in 1999 from Anderson-Tully after 37 years of service. He also owned and operated Papa George Trucking for six years.
Mr. Ward retired from the Mississippi National Guard as chief warrant officer 3rd class in food service with 21 years of service. He enjoyed reading, dancing and riding around Vicksburg. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Ward Haynes and husband Berry of Ocean Springs; his son, George L. “Scooter” Ward of Jackson; grandson, Peyton Wilson of Ocean Springs; longtime friend, Pat Simrall; and the mother of his children, Bernadette Luckett Ward of Vicksburg.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Green Acres Memorial Park with the Rev. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tully Hall, Ben Luckett, Ward Daniels, Ray Caldwell, Troy Myers and Ray Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Robb, Kelly Jelks and present and former employees of Anderson-Tully Co.
