Jacqueline Whalin

Jacqueline “Jackie” Whalin, 69, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson after a lengthy illness.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert W. Whalin of Clinton; a daughter, Kate W. Whitehead and her husband, Russell, of Baton Rouge; and three grandchildren, Andrew, David and Benjamin, all of Baton Rouge.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with Rev. David McIntosh officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the hour of the service.

Mrs. Whalin was a resident of Vicksburg for 31 years. Prior to moving to Vicksburg, she was director of girls’ athletics at Laguna Beach High School in California. In Vicksburg, she was director of school activities and chairman of the Physical Education Department at All Saints’ Episcopal School.

She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church. After leaving Vicksburg, she moved with her husband Robert to Laurel, Md., where she served as a civilian representative to the General Officer Steering Committee for the Army Family Action Plan and was a member of the Army Family Team Building Advisory Council. She was the recipient of the Department of Outstanding Civilian Service Medal, and she also received the Department of Army Medal for Patriotic Civilian Service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zelpha and Raymond Kearns; and a sister, Ray Ellen Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ginny Abraham, Gitta Krintzsky, Brenda Theriot, Joy Mihalyka, Betty Davis, Denise Irwin, Judy Pennington and Carolyn Ingram.
