Charles Edward Butler Sr. died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Promise Specialty Hospital. He was 75.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Butler retired from the United States Corps of Engineers. He was a longtime member of Mount Pisgah M.B. Church. He was a member of St. Paul Masonic Lodge and American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys N. Butler; his father, Ruben Chapman; and his mother and stepfather, Margarette Butler Phillips.

He is survived by two sons, Charles E. Butler Jr. and David H. Butler, both of Vicksburg; four daughters, Charmane L. Buie, Lydia B. Claiborne, Margarette Y. Butler and LaDawn L. Butler, all of Vicksburg; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Loudessia Chapman.
