Alcorn State head football coach Ernest T. Jones has been fired days after filing a lawsuit seeking the reinstatement of seven coaches on his staff.

Jones’ attorney, Wayne Ferrell, told the Associated Press Thursday afternoon that the firing was detailed in a letter he received. Ferrell said he could not go into detail about the allegations in the letter, but he called them frivolous.

Jones told The Vicksburg Post he heard the news from his attorney, not directly from any Alcorn officials.

Attempts by The Vicksburg Post to contact Ferrell were unsuccessful. Alcorn State athletic director Darren Hamilton said he had no comment on the situation.

“I do now,” Jones said when asked if he was aware of his dismissal. “They haven’t told me anything. My attorneys were told, and I’m going to refer all my questions to them.”
