Dorothy Jean Adams Selby

BENTONIA — Dorothy Jean Adams Selby died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 73.
Mrs. Selby was a resident of the Phoenix community near Bentonia and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for a number of years.
She retired from the Yazoo County Tax Assessor and Collector’s Office.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Moran Howell Adams and Maudie Lucille Adams; a brother, Ellis Adams; and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Halbert Ray Selby Sr. of Bentonia; three daughters, Debra Potter and Donna Beard, both of Phoenix, and Kim Oliver of Brandon; two sons, Adam Selby of Yazoo City and Dr. Halbert R. Selby Jr. of Ocean Springs; two sisters, Sylvia Penton of Grenada and Kathryn Penton of Ocean Springs; three brothers, Paul Adams Sr. of Yazoo City, James Adams of Gautier and Joe Adams of Hermanville; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Katherine Selby of Caledonia.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City with the Revs. Darby Combs and Cory Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Yazoo County.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Selby, Adam Selby Jr., Brad Whitfield, Selby Oliver, Chance Hall and Charles Catlett.
