C.D. Spell

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — C.D. Spell, age 89 of Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away at Gwinnett Medical Center on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. He was born in Georgetown, Miss., and resided more than 50 years in Vicksburg. He served in World War II in Europe from 1943 until 1945 as a staff sergeant. He was employed by Illinois Central Railroad as chief clerk for the freight office for over 40 years, was president of the IC Credit Union for six years and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Vicksburg for 50 years.
He relocated to Lawrenceville in 2001 and was a homebound member of Pilgrimage Presbyterian Church in Lilburn, Ga.
In addition to his parents, Collie and Mary Delia Spell, he was preceded in death by his brother, Preston B. Spell of Stone Harbor, N.J.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Florene Spell; son, Kenneth C. Spell of Los Angeles; daughter, Marcia Barker and her husband, Steve, their children, Jonathan and Melody Barker, and their granddaughter, Amelia Barker, all of Lawrenceville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Pilgrimage Presbyterian Church, 4525 Wynne Russell Drive NW, Lilburn, with the Rev. Greg McMinn officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Barker, Jonathan Barker, Charles Williams, Drake Keller, Don Seagers and Bob Lamp’l.
The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. at the church.
