Josephine C. “Jo Bailey” Prentiss died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Promise Specialty Hospital. She was 99.

Mrs. Prentiss was born in Warren County and attended China Grove School. She was a retired cook and homemaker and a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Prentiss; her father, Oliver Culverton; her mother, Lucinda Page; a stepson, Albert Prentiss Sr.; and a stepgrandson, Ricky Prentiss.

Survivors include a daughter, Katie Mae Funches of Chicago; a stepdaughter, Marie Burks of Troy, Mich.; a stepson, William Prentiss of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren, including her caregiver, Eddie Prentiss of Vicksburg; three stepgrandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
