BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — James Edward “Jimmy” Smith Jr., age 68, passed away Monday at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Smith and Harriet Dezern Smith.

Mr. Smith, a longtime member of the West Tennessee Field Trial Association, was a retired assistant postmaster for the U.S. Postal service, and also retired from the Southeast Bollweevil Eradication Program.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brownsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery in Nutbush, Tenn. Visitation for the Smith family will be tonight from 5 until 8 at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Floyd Smith, Brownsville; his son, Hassell Smith and his wife, Michelle, of Brownsville; his daughter, Hannah Kirby and her husband, Vaughan, of Brownsville; two sisters, Patricia Smith Baggett and her husband, Larry, of Brownsville and Dr. Deborah Smith of Vicksburg; and six grandchildren, Addison Smith, Alyse Smith, Weldon Smith, Miles Kirby, Haynes Kirby and Elizabeth Kirby.
