JENNINGS, La.  — Earl Henry “Shing” Simon died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at The Dubuis Hospital in Lake Charles, La. He was 68.

A native of Lafayette, La., Mr. Simon was a resident of Jennings, La. He was a motorman for an offshore company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Euell J. Simon and Hazel Richard Klumpp.

Survivors include his wife of 48 1/2 years, Lorrine Dupuis Simon of Jennings; one son, James Earl Simon of Jennings; one daughter, Pamela Kaye Ward of Vicksburg; four half-brothers, Euell “Bully” Simon, James Simon and Wayne “Cotlon” Simon, all of Starks, La., and Leroy Ortego of Lake Arthur, La.; one sister, Irene LaFosse of Lake Arthur; four half-sisters, Kristina Hill of Mississippi and Virginia White, Linda Smith and Hilda Says, all of Starks; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings with the Rev. Charles McMillin officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be from 2:30 until 9 tonight at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings with rosary at 7 p.m. and from 8 a.m. Wednesday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Jerrett Simon, Richard Ward, Craig Ardoin, Douglas Sonnier, Dwain Ardoin and Burt Ardoin.

Honorary pallbearer will be Euell Simon.
