Cleo Gaines Baker

PORT GIBSON — Cleo Gaines Baker died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 85.

Mrs. Baker was a member, usher and mother at Rising Sun M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike Baker; her parents, Jim and Elizabeth Johnson Gaines; two daughters, Ethel Lee Baker and Lena Mae Baker; a sister, Hazel Taplin; and a brother, Clarence Gaines.

She is survived by four sons, Willie Jeff James of Greensboro, N.C., the Rev. Donnie Baker of Hempstead, N.Y., Lonnie Baker of Hermanville and Ike Baker of Port Gibson; two daughters, Shirley A. Darden and Anita Baker-Smith, both of Port Gibson; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Donnie Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Christian Church Cemetery in Lorman. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.
