Questions and answers
Q: What is the status of Green Acres Memorial Park?
A: The private cemetery on U.S. 80 is open for the sale of grave spaces and to provide burial services to those who pre-purchased grave spaces. Green Acres may be contacted at listed phone numbers.
Q: Who will provide grave opening and closing services?
A: Services will be provided when needed by cemetery staff. Prepayments are still being honored under court oversight. Those who have not prepaid must pay when services are provided.
Q: Are vaults still required?
A: Yes. Under covenants still in force, all burials at Green Acres require an outer container into which caskets are placed and sealed.
Q: Will prepayments for vaults be honored?
A: Apparently not. At the time services are needed, those wishing to have a burial will be able to purchase a vault from a funeral director, even if prepayment has been made.
Q: What about grave markers, vases and other merchandise?
A: This remains unresolved. If paid for in advance, there are no Green Acres funds to pay for purchase of these items, which are not available from funeral directors. If paid for when services are provided, merchandise may be available from suppliers to Green Acres.
Q: What about cutting the grass, other landscaping?
A: A trust designated for perpetual care remains with a balance of more than $200,000 and routine care and maintenance is expected to continue.
