Relics of past geologic ages will be on display and under analysis at this year’s Fossil Road Show at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson.
Paleontologists David Dockery and James Starnes of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality’s Office of Geology will be on hand to identify rocks and fossils brought in by the public.
“The Office of Geology is pleased to be part of this exceptional event again this year. Our involvement last year resulted in the identification of two new fossil molluscan species brought in by members of the public. We enjoy the interaction with the people who visit, and it is a learning experience for us as well,” said Michael Bograd, State Geologist and Director of the Office of Geology.
In its sixth year, the Fossil Road Show allows people to bring their fossils for identification and for expert opinions.
In addition, fossils from the museum’s collection will be on display. The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is located within Lefleur’s Bluff State Park off Lakeland Drive in Jackson. For more information, call 601-354-7303 or access www.msnaturalscience.org.
