This and that: More dates, sites set for cleanup effort

The Great American Cleanup, sponsored by Keep Vicksburg-Warren Beautiful, has added work sites and dates to its schedule.

The community beautification effort runs through May 31. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, large and small clippers, rakes and other yard tools. For information, call 601-618-5786 or e-mail holleysimrall@gmail.com.

* At 1 p.m. March 18 at the Firehouse Gallery, Main and Openwood streets, volunteers will clean the courtyard.

* At 10 a.m. March 19 at The Salvation Army, Mission 66, volunteers will clean the flower bed. Donations of shrubs are needed.

* At 10 a.m. April 16-17 at the Salvation Army, volunteers will paint the eaves of the building. Donations of paint and supplies are needed.

Hinds-Raymond sets annual arts week

Hinds Community College in Raymond will present its annual Mississippi and the Arts, set for March 30-April 2.

Artists, writers and performers will showcase their talents.

The week will open with events on March 30 in Hogg Auditorium at Cain-Cochran Hall:

* 9 a.m. — Hinds Community College Stage Band performance

* 1 0 a.m. — William Dunlap book-signing, “Mississippi Story”

* 11 a.m. — Growing Up in Mississippi panel discussion

* 7 p.m. – Mississippi Symphony Orchestra performance.

Book-signing set at downtown store

A downtown book store will host author Joshua Jones for a book-signing.

Jones will sign “No One to Wash Her Hair” at 2 p.m. April 18 at Lorelei Books.

The book is a coming-of-age novel set in Mississippi.

Four Tops to play at Pearl River Resort

Pearl River Resort will present a concert by classic Motown band The Four Tops at 8 p.m. April 4 at the Silver Star Convention Center.

The Four Tops have been entertaining for 50 years and are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Hits include “Reach Out (I’ll Be There),” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” “Baby I Need Your Loving” and “Always and Forever.”

Ticket prices range from $27 to $37, and individuals must be 21 to attend.
