Business portfolio|Rogers retires from Corps

Michael B. Rogers has retired with 35 years of service as a civil engineer.

Since 2004, he served as programs director for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mississippi Valley Division, and the Mississippi River Commission.

Rogers began his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1973 as a civil engineering technician and, in 1982, joined the Corps as a civil engineer.

Rogers has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Tennessee and is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee and Alabama. He is a member of the federal government’s Senior Executive Service, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers.

Rogers was presented the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award at his retirement ceremony.

He is a native of Manchester, Tenn. He and his wife, Brenda, live in Vicksburg and have three grown children, Allen, Tracey and Baron.

PERS sets election for representative

The Public Employees Retirement System of Mississippi Board of Trustees has scheduled an election for state employee representative.

The retirement of John L. Mulholland created an open spot, and the election will fill his unexpired term through June 30, 2014. To qualify to run, a state employee must have been a PERS member for 10 years and have a petition signed by 25 of its members. Applications must be mailed to PERS, 429 Mississippi St., Jackson, by 5 p.m. April 9.

Ballots, biographical information, candidate statements and voting instructions will be mailed to home addresses of PERS members by May 18. Members can vote by telephone, Internet or mail. The deadline is 5 p.m. June 18.
