Clara Becker “Girlie” Broaddus

RICHMOND, Va. — Clara Becker “Girlie” Broaddus of Richmond, Va., age 86, widow of Temple Winston Broaddus, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Richmond after a long illness. A member of Grace & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Richmond, Mrs. Broaddus served for many years on its altar guild and also served as its past chairman. She was an active member of the Florence Nightingale Circle of Sheltering Arms Hospital, a past president and charter member of the Thomas Jefferson Junior Women’s Club, and a member of the Thomas Jefferson Women’s Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Jane Andrews Thames and her husband, Lee Davis Thames, of Vicksburg; a daughter, Kay Andrews Payne and her husband, Christopher Payne Jr., of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Phoebe Toney of Richmond; and a son, Scott W. Broaddus and his wife, Marianna Broaddus, of Richmond, together with 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hollywood Cemetery with the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
