Sarah Louise Fulghum

UTICA — Sarah Louise “Nana” Fulghum, 72, died March 21, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Utica.

She was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Pelahatchie and lived in Ridgeland more than 20 years before moving to Vicksburg in 1999. Mrs. Fulghum was a homemaker, and she also kept children in her home for many years. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Rayford Fulghum; parents, Edwin Earl Ragan and Hattie Ragan; and sisters, Lanell Phillips, Sylvia Ragan and Ruby Tyson.

She is survived by four daughters, Jenni Gallagher (John) of Carmack, Lacrica “Lu” Chapman (Ken) of Utica and Candy Odom and Laura Fulghum, both of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Adam Wyndham, Sarah Young, John “Trip” Gallagher, Jessie Odom, Brian Odom and Shelton Fulghum; great-grandchildren, Railyn Young and Hydie Gallagher; three sisters, JoAnn Leach, Sue Thomas and Helen Richburg; two brothers, Cowboy Ragan and John Paul Ragan; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Paul Pierce III and Providence Hospice of Vicksburg for their wonderful care during this difficult time.

Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Warrenton Baptist Church in Vicksburg and on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, from 11 a.m. until noon with services to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Jackson.
