Deputies had a description of the pair’s vehicle, provided after the theft of the four-wheeler, and traced it to Axsom and Mayfield at the motel. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Hattiesburg, Pace said. Authorities there plan to charge Axsom with auto theft.A records check also showed Axsom is wanted by authorities in Texas.

When arrested, Axsom had a .380-caliber handgun with him in the motel room, Pace said.

Both Mayfield and Axsom were being held without bond. Axsom’s detainers will prevent him from being released on bond, and Mayfield is awaiting an initial hearing.

More charges filed against city man

A Vicksburg man arrested early Friday morning has had additional charges filed against him.

Charges against George D. Baker, 32, address unavailable, initially charged with possession of cocaine, now include three counts of sale of cocaine and one count of sale of oxycodone, said Sheriff Martin Pace.

Baker was the subject of a months-long undercover investigation led by sheriff’s deputies with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Pace said.

Baker was in Warren County Jail Friday night.
