St. Al splits series with Bogue Chitto|Prep softball

St. Aloysius staved off elimination with a 7-0 win in Game 2 of its second round Class 1A playoff series at Bogue Chitto Saturday.

The deciding third game is set for Tuesday at 5:30 at Bazinsky Park.

The Lady Flashes may have gotten the sweep but could not hold on to a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning. Bogue Chitto rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth and won Game 1, 3-2. St. Al lost despite getting 14 strikeouts from pitcher Sarah Franco. The Lady Bobcats were limited to just two hits in Game 1.

St. Al (15-7) got RBI singles from Franco and Katie Koestler. Mallory McGuffie had two hits.

In Game 2, Franco struck out 10 and hurled a shutout. She scattered three hits.

At the plate, St. Al got 12 hits, including three RBIs from Koestler. Caitlyn Park had two hits and two runs scored as did Franco. McGuffie had two hits and drove in one while Sara Howington and Kay Kay DeRossette had two singles each. Hannah Barrett drove in one off a single.
