Court report|County man gets 20 years for statutory rape

Benjamin Rambo, who pleaded guilty March 16 to statutory rape of a child under 14, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday.

Rambo, 31, 1245 Mount Alban Road, Lot 24, appeared to break down after Judge Isadore Patrick read the sentence, which also includes five years of probation and fines and victim fees totaling $2,322.50.

“Today we protected our children,” said victim assistance coordinator Brenda Theriot. “I appreciate Judge Patrick’s sentence.”

Rambo was indicted by the Warren County Grand Jury in October on an Aug. 20 arrest.

Also sentenced Friday was Cecil Gray, 42, 2449 Redbone Road, who pleaded guilty to simple robbery. Patrick sentenced Gray to six years in prison to be followed by five years of probation.

Gray was indicted by grand jurors in May in the November 2007 robbery of a woman in the parking lot of Wal-Mart SuperCenter.

Also in Warren County Circuit Court during the week ending Friday:

* Jeffery T. Cage, 35, 750 Whitaker Drive, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Circuit Judge Frank Vollor to seven years in prison. Cage was arrested June 8, 2004, for business burglary.

* Jamie Chaloux, 31, 201 Berryman Road, Apt. A1, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced by Patrick to the 9th Circuit Drug Court program for a period not to exceed five years, plus fines of $1,322.50. Chaloux was arrested March 5.

* Linda Jane Cole, 44, 100 Chance Lane, pleaded guilty to possession of precursor chemicals and was sentenced by Patrick to the Drug Court program for a period not to exceed five years, plus fines of $1,322.50. Cole was arrested Nov. 10 and Dec. 18.

* Angela High, 35, 11585 Mississippi 1, Rolling Fork, was found guilty of violating probation and had her probation extended by Vollor for five years. High was arrested Jan. 17, 2006, for embezzlement.

* Ingram Sparks, 22, 313 Cain Ridge Road, pleaded guilty to third-offense DUI and was sentenced by Patrick to the Drug Court program for four years, plus fines of $2,822.50. Sparks was arrested Oct. 16 and March 26.

* Susie Johnson, 34, 1124 South St., Apt. 1, pleaded guilty to third offense shoplifting and was sentenced by Patrick to the Drug Court program for four years, plus fines of $1,822.50. Johnson was arrested Nov. 22.

* Jose D. Mota, 27, 5220 U.S. 61 South, Lot H-20, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana and was sentenced by Patrick to five years of probation and fines of $322.50, but is being held in the Warren County Jail because of pending action by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. Mota was arrested Jan. 7.

* Milton L. Smith, 35, 3112 N. Washington St., pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and was sentenced by Patrick to five years of probation and fines of $1,822.50. Smith was arrested in September.

* Ar’menn Stewart, 19, 1400 Bowmar Ave., was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Vollor to three years in prison, with credit for time served in jail on a new charge of possession of a weapon after felony conviction. Stewart was arrested in September for possession of a controlled substance.

* Edward Walker Jr., 42, 103 Harle Circle, Pearl, pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary of a dwelling and was sentenced by Patrick to seven years in prison followed by five years of probation. Walker must also pay his victims $11,600 in restitution and fines of $1,322.50. Walker was arrested Nov. 21.
