Six different players had at least one hit for St. Al (19-3) in Game 1. Blake Haygood and Ryno Martin-Nez had three hits apiece, while Joseph Brown, Corey Jones, Justin Rushing and Pierson Waring all had two. Haygood and Jones had three RBIs.

“The score was kind of deceiving. We hit some balls hard,” St. Al coach Clint Wilkerson said. “We hit two double plays on line drives and had a couple others to the outfield that were laserbeams. They were a good defensive club.”

French Camp’s Justin Anderson tripled, singled and scored two runs, including one in the bottom of the first that cut an early St. Al lead to 2-1. The Flashes answered with four runs in the third inning, and were never challenged again.

St. Al added one run in the fourth and sixth innings, and three in the fifth and seventh.

Stephen Evans was sharp on the mound for St. Al. He struck out seven, walked none and allowed three hits in five innings as he improved to 7-1. Waring pitched two innings of scoreless, hitless relief to finish up. Waring also had a double and an RBI at the plate.
