Vicksburg High’s top players only dropped one set total Friday in a 5-2 romp over Pontotoc in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at Halls Ferry Park.

Donald Brown and Christine Figueroa both won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 boys and girls singles, respectively. Perry Wolfe and Fitz Valerio won 6-3, 7-5 in No. 1 boys’ doubles, while Perry Tolliver and Grace Ga-as won 6-2, 6-1 in mixed doubles. The only hiccup on the day was in No. 1 girls’ doubles, where Catherine and Charlene Figueroa dropped the second set of their match before winning the match in the third. The Figueroas won 7-6, 6-7 (7-3), 6-3.

Vicksburg advanced to face either Lafayette or West Lauderdale in the second round next week.
