Published 12:00 am Saturday, May 2, 2009

National Day of Prayer will be observed in Vicksburg at 10 prayer sites from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

This observance, signed into law in 1952 by President Harry Truman, was designed to give people of all faith the opportunity to join together and pray.

The Vicksburg-Warren County National Day of Prayer Committee was established in 1996.

This year’s theme is Prayer — America’s Hope! and is coupled with a Bible verse that reads, “May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”

The committee’s chairman, Dr. Willie Nettle of Bypass Church of Christ on U.S. 61 North, suggested that the indoor sites be used by senior citizens who do not want to be in the weather.

Even in rain, the program will go on, Nettle said.
