Bessie Peterson Singleton died Monday, May 4, 2009, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 86.

A Warren County native, Mrs. Singleton was retired from Sydney Convalescent Home. She was a member of St. Mark M.B. Church, where she served on the mother board, was former president of the Senior Choir and was a member of the Willing Workers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon C. Singleton Sr.; two sons, Leon C. Singleton Jr. and James L. Singleton; one daughter, Lubertha Singleton; and her parents, Bertha Brisco and Ben Peterson Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Louise Garrett and Rebecca Smith, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Ben Peterson Jr. of Vicksburg; a sister, Oretha Crump of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives, including Willie B. Reed of Vicksburg and Lucy Moore of Chicago.
