MADISON — Richard Preston Garrett, 18, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at University Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be held today, May 6, 2009, from 5 until 7:30 p.m. at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jackson at 10 a.m., with a visitation held one hour prior. Internment will follow at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Preston was a proud and devoted father and was engaged to be married. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Preston had attended Terry High School, where he flourished in the sport of soccer at that time. He had a passion for music, especially writing chord progressions and also was an avid fisherman. Preston “became the best of a man that I know of” said his father Richard Alex. “He finally got his wings” — Chet.
Preston is survived by his fiancée, Andee McCarty of Jackson; son, Preston Tucker Cole Garrett of Jackson; mother, Darla Brumley and husband Mike of Madison; father, Richard Garrett and Michelle of Ripley; brothers, Billy Jacob Garrett of Madison, Alex Brady Garrett of Ripley and Justin Hawthorne of Vicksburg; stepbrother, Michael Seth Brumley of Caledonia; stepsisters, Nicole Song Brumley of Caledonia, Georgia and Felicia Norton of Blue Mountain, Miss.; grandparents, Chet and Renee Holman of Byram, Jim and Mabel Garrett of Flora, Johnnie P. Dean of Ripley and Bill LaComb of Jackson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, a trust fund for Preston Tucker Cole has been prepared at BankPlus.
