USM offering summer camps

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs has extended the 2009 Sea Camp registration deadline to May 29.

The camp, held at the J.L. Scott Marine Education Center, is an annual, weeklong marine science day camp for ages 6-13. Activities include field trips to the beach and salt-marsh habitats, kayaking and a shark biology session. Cost per week is $210 for ages 6-7, $235 for ages 8-11 and $275 for ages 12-13.

• Ages 6-9 — June 8-12, 15-19, 22-26, July 6-10, 13-17 and 20-24.

• Ages 10-11 — June 8-12, 15-19, 22-26, July 13-17 and 20-24.

• Ages 12-13 — June 15-19, 22-26 and July 6-10.

In addition to Sea Camp, a five-day career camp, Coastal Sciences Investigation, will be offered for ages 14-17. The sessions are June 1-5 for commuters and July 27-31 for residential campers with a maximum of 18 students per session.

The cost for the commuter session is $490. The cost for the July session is $700.
