Mississippi Department of Transportation maintenance supervisor Bob Broadwater, right, and maintenance technician Ben Summers install safety barriers along a stretch of Mississippi 465 where Mississippi River backwater has eroded the shoulder of the road. The road, the primary connector of U.S. 61 to Eagle Lake, was reopened to vehicular traffic Wednesday after being closed for two weeks. Broadwater said a temporary fix on the slide should begin Monday and permanent repairs are expected in the summer. The Mississippi River continued its fall this morning, down 0.6 foot from 45.2 feet Wednesday. Flood stage at Vicksburg is 43 feet. (Suzanne Feliciano*The Vicksburg Post)
