Man hospitalized after beating at Walnut, First East

A Vicksburg man was in fair condition this morning at University Medical Center, said a hospital spokesman, after being beaten Wednesday night.
John Harris, 44, 800 Walnut St., Apt. B, was taken to River Region Medical Center after paramedics, who were in the area at the time, saw him being beaten with a crowbar by girlfriend Crystal Owens, 26, same address, at Walnut and First East streets, said Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams.
Owens was arrested and charged with domestic aggravated assault, said Williams. She was in the Warren County Jail without bond.
City man charged in statutory rape
A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail this morning, charged with statutory rape of a minor under 16.
Timothy L. Strong, 21, 204 Winter Lane, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after he was seen by a neighbor entering the victim’s home, said Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams. The neighbor notified the victim’s mother, Williams said.
When police arrived, Williams said, Strong was under a bed. He was held on a $25,000 bond.
Shooting reported at Speed, Hunt
A shooting was reported Wednesday evening at Speed and Hunt streets.
The victim, a minor, was shot in the leg and taken to River Region Medical Center by private vehicle, said Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams.
The victim told police he was walking in the area when he was shot, said Williams. No suspect had been named this morning.
River Region did not return a call for a condition report.
Woman charged with shoplifting
A Vicksburg woman was being held without bond at the Vicksburg Police Department this morning, charged with third-offense shoplifting.
Thelma Washington, 56, 201 Berryman Road, Apt. 33, was arrested at 10:09 p.m. Wednesday, said Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams. She is accused of taking two bottles of Oil of Olay lotion, which were recovered, from the Corner Market on North Frontage Road.
Police followed Washington’s vehicle to East Clay Street and Interstate 20, where she was arrested, after a manager reported the thefts, said Williams.
Fishing supplies missing at camp
A burglary at a fishing camp on Thompson Lake Road was reported at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday.
An air compressor valued at $100, 12 fishing rods and reels valued at $100, a Shakespeare trolling motor valued at $25, a fish fryer valued at $25, five tackle boxes valued at $25 and a radio valued at $10 were missing from a storage shed.
