This and that|Hinds offers piano course

Hinds Community College will offer two Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People classes.

The first will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. July 7 in the Workforce Development Center at the Raymond campus. The second will be July 8, at the same time, in the Multipurpose Building at the Vicksburg campus.

Southern Cultural offers dance classes

The Southern Cultural Heritage Center will offer an Art of Dance workshop for youths each Wednesday in July.

Andrea Tower, owner of Cypress Pilates in downtown Vicksburg, will teach the sessions, which will include jazz, lyrical and hip-hop dance. Tower began her dance studies at age 7 and has participated in the Alvin Alley and Limon Dance Companies in New York.

Class times are 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 6 to 8, 2:30 to 3:30 for ages 9 to 12 and 3:30 to 4:30 for ages 13 to 18.

July 4th activities set at Whitfield

The Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield will present its annual Independence Day celebration at 7 p.m. July 1.

The free event will feature entertainment and games, children’s activities and refreshments for sale. A fireworks display will begin at 9.

Rolling Fork rolls out fun for Fourth

The Rolling Fork Homecoming Festival will be July 3-4.

Activities will kick off at 5 p.m. July 3 at the National Guard Armory and will feature a Gospel Extavaganza, a social hour and entertainment after 8. Tickets are $20.

July 4 events will begin at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the Court House Square. Featured will be more gospel music and a Bar-B-Que Throw Down.

Spend July Fourth with the birds

The Jackson Audubon Society’s monthly Bird Walk will be at 8 a.m. July 4. Participants are asked to meet at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park at the Mayes Lake Entrance.

Cost to enter the state park, located at 115 Lakeland Terrace, is $3 per car.
