Samuel E. Varnell

Samuel E. “Sam” Varnell died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Patients Choice Hospital in Port Gibson. He was 63.

Mr. Varnell was a lifelong resident of Warren County. He was retired from Waterways Experiment Station and was a member of the Guns Bayou Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Miriam Varnell.

He is survived by his wife, Star Varnell of Vicksburg; two daughters, Sheila Ross of Madison and Phyllis Funches of New Orleans; two stepsons, Robert S. Walker and Samuel Walker, both of Vicksburg; a brother, David Varnell of Columbia, S.C.; a sister Jeanette Severe of Columbia; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home, followed by burial at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Cody Parker, Ronnie Deckelman, Lenny Ross, Ed Pratt, Brian Stricklen and Steve Stricklen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Porter and members of the Guns Bayou and Deer Park hunting clubs.
