After a week and a half at Mississippi State University, Cherokee, the injured gaited horse that was seized by the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society, has returned to Vicksburg.
The skin graft to cover the months-old wound on her hind leg was successful, and the mare is under doctor’s orders to stay stalled for 40 to 60 days.
Georgia Lynn, director of the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society, said cash totaling nearly $1,000 and bags of feed have been donated since the horse was taken to Mississippi State in early June.
The wounded horse was seized by the shelter in April.
She said the feed donations are needed since Cherokee is not allowed to graze.
