William H. Gerrard

William “Red” H. Gerrard died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Promise Hospital. He was 86.

Mr. Gerrard was a native of Cary and had lived in Vicksburg for the past 45 years. He played pro baseball and was a veteran of World War II. He retired as a maintenance man at Central Mississippi Medical Center at the age of 83 and was a member of Refuge Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Gerrard; his grandmother, Estelle Johnson; a son, Phil Heggins; a sister, Jennie Akers; and two brothers, Roy Gerrard and Albert Foster Gerrard.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Hedrick Gerrard; two nephews, Tom Akers and Roger Hedrick; and four nieces, Jean Kinnebrew Reynolds, Rose Kellum, Jennifer Harper and Helen Goss.

Services will be at 2 today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Winkler officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 today until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Richard Goss, Teddy Crotwell, Bo Holeman, Thomas Carey, David Foster and Tom Akers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Trout, Earl Trout, Lee Allen, Raymond Harless, Cecil Summers and Maggie Hedrick.
