James Patrick Pantenburg

BEND, Ore. — James Patrick “Jimmy” Pantenburg died July 3, 2009, of brain cancer at Hospice House of Bend. He was 15.

Jimmy was born on April 21, 1994, in Boise, Idaho, to Leon and Debbie Pantenburg, both formerly of Vicksburg. Jimmy attended Westside Village Magnet School in Bend, from kindergarten through eighth grade, and was a freshman at Bend High School.

During Jimmy’s life, he enjoyed snowboarding, skateboarding, basketball and baseball, was an avid tennis player and bowler, played guitar and mostly enjoyed being with his numerous friends.

After Jimmy’s diagnosis and surgery in 2008, he engaged in many outdoor excursions in Oregon, including a beach trip on the Pacific Coast, whitewater rafting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and traveling to Hawaii.

A memorial service and celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held on July 20 at Westside Village Magnet School.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Daniel; and sister, Mary; grandparents James and Ethel Pickens of Vicksburg, aunt and uncle Patti Pickens Peets and James Pickens Jr., both formerly of Vicksburg; and 13 other aunts and uncles from various states, plus numerous cousins.

Jimmy was preceded in death by grandparents Charles and Mary Pantenburg of Ames, Iowa; Charles Garvis and Mary Elizabeth LaGrone and Garvis Lagrone Jr., all of Vicksburg, and Roy Z. and Dorothy Pickens of Jackson, Miss.
