An 11-year-old Edwards girl died Wednesday night after being hit by a car while riding on a bicycle near her home, officials said.

Ieshia B. Wright, P.O. Box 290, was hit by a 1993 Chevrolet at 1058 Cemetery Road after apparently crossing in front of the vehicle around dusk, said Hinds County Under Sheriff Edd Swinney.

Ieshia was trapped beneath the vehicle, Swinney said. She was brought by AMR Ambulance service to River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, where she was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m., said Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey.

Huskey said the child died from head trauma. He said no autopsy would be performed.

No family members could be contacted this morning.
