TALLULAH (AP) — Tallulah’s prison has a new name to go with its new purpose.

Formerly known as the Steve Hoyle Rehabilitation Center, Pam LaBorde, communications director for the Louisiana Department of Corrections, said the prison is now called the Louisiana Transition Center for Women. LaBorde estimated LDOC has moved 75 women prisoners into the facility and will continue until the population reaches 550.

Last month, LDOC announced that the facility will house the state’s first re-entry program for women offenders. The prison will offer GEDs, skills training and job application resources for women prisoners within one year of their release.
