Vicksburg man charged in attack at VPD

An attack at Vicksburg Police headquarters Monday resulted in the victim being treated at a hospital and the arrest of a Vicksburg man.

Lamont Williams, 31, 107 Elizabeth Circle, was charged with aggravated assault and intimidation of a witness at 12:25 p.m., Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Williams was accused of punching and kicking a manager of Fred’s, 1514 Washington St., who was waiting at the station to file charges against a shoplifter, identified by Stewart as Williams’ girlfriend.

The woman, Shonta Robinson, 27, 823 W. Pine St., was arrested at 10:57 a.m. and charged with fourth offense shoplifting, a felony.

She also was accused of violating probation.

Williams was being held in the Issaquena County Jail on $125,000 bond this morning. Robinson was being held without bond in Issaquena for the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Stewart said.

The manager was treated and released from River Region Medical Center for a broken nose and other face and head injuries, Stewart said.

Delivered packages among missing items

One auto and two home burglaries were reported in the city Monday, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

An Emerson TV/DVD player valued at $300 was reported stolen from a Ford Crown Victoria in the 1400 block of High Street at 12:02 p.m.

A 42-inch plasma TV valued at $1,200, a Compaq laptop valued at $699 and a Wii video game valued at $29 were reported stolen from a home in the 1200 block of China Street at 12:49 p.m.

Two FedEx packages were reported stolen from the front porch of a home in the 3400 block of Drummond Street at 5:35 p.m.

The homeowner recovered the packages after chasing the two thieves, who dropped the items and got away.

The value of the packages was not provided.

City man charged in threat on cop

A Vicksburg man was arrested for simple assault by threat on a police officer after a Municipal Court session Monday at 4:38 p.m.

Timothy Ross, 32, 1103 Jefferson St., was released from the Warren County Jail Monday on $10,000, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Ross had appeared in court, and after threatened physical harm to a policeman, Stewart said.

Municipal Court is at the Vicksburg Police Department headquarters building on Veto Street.

City man jailed for selling pot

A Vicksburg man was arrested for selling marijuana outside a business at 3330 Clay St. after an undercover investigation Monday at 4:25 p.m.

Charles Mack Taylor, 30, 1501 1/2 Military St. was being held in Issaquena County Jail on $20,000 bond, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
