City woman faces DHS charges for welfare fraud

A Vicksburg woman was charged with welfare, food stamp and public assistance fraud Wednesday at 9:34 a.m., Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Demetra Butler, 31, 103 Freedom Lane, was arrested by Warren County sheriff’s deputies and Constable Glen McKay at her home after a Mississippi Department of Human Services investigation, Pace said.
Butler was released on $10,000 bond.
Jewelry, equipment missing in county
Spray guns, jewelry and a scooter were reported stolen in the county Tuesday and Wednesday, a sheriff’s records department spokesman said.
Three Titan 3-foot spray guns valued at $2,000 each were reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Twin Creeks Drive Tuesday at 8:50 a.m.
A diamond bracelet valued at $2,500 and a gold watch valued at $900 were reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Covington Quarters Wednesday at 3:58 p.m.
A Jasmine Mobility Scooter, no value given, was reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Old Highway 27 Wednesday at 1:01 p.m.
Claiborne pair held for Vicksburg forgeries
A Hermanville man and a Port Gibson woman were arrested at the Claiborne County Jail Wednesday after warrants were issued by Vicksburg police on unrelated forgery charges, Vickburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
Oliver Chambliss Jr., 53, 1041 Pattison-Hermanville Road, Apt. C-1, is accused of cashing an $855 check on his father’s account at Regions Bank on Crawford Street May 4.
Chambliss was being held in the Issaquena County Jail without bond pending a hearing.
Lawonna Keller, 30, 104 Elm St., is accused of cashing a $500 counterfeit American Express check at Britton and Koontz bank in April 2007.
Probation violation lands man in jail
A Vicksburg man was being held without bond for probation violation in the Warren County Jail today.
Antonio James, 27, 1515 Sky Farm Ave., was being held for the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
