The Westside Theatre Foundation will present “Butterflies Are Free” this weekend and next.

The 1960s play is about a blind man in New York whose controlling mother disapproves of his relationship with a free-spirited hippie.

The play will be at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Coral Room at The Vicksburg on Clay Street. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for seniors.

Utica artist named tops in two shows

Utica artist Amber Carraway has received two Best in Show awards in separate competitions.

Her painting “Remembering Mimaw,” a watercolor portrait of her grandmother, took top honors at the 2009 People’s Choice contest at the Meridian Museum of Art.

Her watercolor of zebras, “Between the Lines,” received kudos at the Mississippi Artists’ Guild’s 2009 Juried Competition. The painting joins other competing pieces on display through July at the Mississippi Art Center, 201 E. Pascagoula St.

Quick Bites slated at Extension office

The Warren County Extension Service is offering Quick Bites programs in August and September.

The free programs will be at noon Thursdays at the office at 1100-C Grove St. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch. For information, call 601-636-5442 or visit www.msucares.com.

• Sept. 24 — Financial Rules of Thumb and Conventional Wisdom; led by Bobby Shaffett, Family Resource Management.

Zoo babies invited to annual breakfast

The Jackson Zoo will host its annual Breakfast with the Babies from 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday at the Elephant House Cafe.

The event will feature the zoo’s newest animal babies, including chimps, lemurs and penguins.

Admission for zoo members is $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for children, $12.50 and $7.50 for nonmember adults and children. Reservations are encouraged.
